2006.02.19 Five Winds - cross country skiing

This trip was a a few days after whiteout conditions on the 400, 401 and 417 caused numerous accidents. We had lots of snow, and there was enought fresh snow on the roads that it didn’t seem like a good idea to do the planned “crossover” tours from the Highway 400 side to Nine Mile Lake marina.  And just after the leaders decided that, our bus got stuck while turning around. With the help of one guy who provided sand and helped us spread it under the wheels of the bus and a snow plow operator who gave us a tow, the driver got the bus turned around. Then we headed out for a good day of skiing.

When we returned we found that bus had broken down. The bus company had arranged for a replacement which was on the way, and also sent a third bus driven by a mechanic, who tried to diagnose the problem.

This week, I’ve gathered a number of photos from myself, Philip Koop and Jeff Meek into a slide show that you can download and view. The file size is 2.3 MB. You will need Adobe Reader (a free download) to play the slide show.  To download and view the slide show, right-click here and choose Save Target As. For more information on this click here.
